At About Thyme, hospitality isn’t just about providing a place to stay; it’s about sharing something special.

A passion for hosting
I’m a homebody at heart who takes great joy in welcoming others to our little corner of the world. Over the years, we’ve hosted countless friends and guests, and I’ve often been told I should be a professional host. Perhaps it’s true; no one ever leaves my table hungry. Whether it’s a freshly baked loaf, a well-stocked breakfast basket, or a dinner spread with just one more dish, I can’t help but over-cater.

Falling in love with Central Otago
Central Otago wasn’t love at first sight for me. When my dad first introduced me to this place 37 years ago, I didn’t quite see what he saw, but it has a way of getting under your skin. Now, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. People don’t just end up here by chance, they choose to be here. And that’s what makes this place so special.

Bringing About Thyme to life
Creating About Thyme wasn’t a quick or easy process. We wanted to build something authentic, a space that truly reflects the history of the Otago Central Railway and the early 1900s. Every detail was carefully curated, and while it took time, it was worth every moment.

A life beyond hosting
When I’m not welcoming guests, I work from home as an indie author and publisher, while my other half, Rob, runs his own business with long hours. Between us, looking after the animals and our lifestyle block keeps us busy, not to mention an unusual hobby – one we might share, but only if you’re interested!

Whether you’re here to unwind, explore, or capture the beauty of the region through a camera lens, we’re delighted to welcome you. We love sharing stories, offering local tips, or just making sure you’ve got the space to enjoy the peace and quiet.
